USEFUL TOOLS
- Deburring tool – cutter knife: useful for removing burrs that remain on the lower and upper ends of the printing parts. It is important to remove them well so that the hull sections fit perfectly.
- Soldering iron with conical tip: useful to open the two accesses of the deck for the hatches and to mark the holes before using the drill. All holes and accesses on the deck of the boat are marked with a rail or hemisphere and can be easily identified once the parts are printed.
RECOMMENDED ADHESIVES
There are three different bonding methods: adhesives (mechanical bonding), solvent (chemical bonding), welding (physical bonding).
The adhesives that have been shown to be suitable for PLA/PLA+ are cyanoacrylate, epoxy, and some methyl methacrylate adhesives.
If it is the first Alioth hull you are building it is recommended use adhesives with enough pot life for positioning the parts and repositioning them if needed.
| Option | Cost | Pot Life (min) | Cure Time (h) | Viscosity | Bond Strength | Weather Resistance |
| Cyanoacrylate | Low | 0.5 | 0.1 | Low | High | Medium |
| Epoxy | Medium | from 5 to 60 | 24 | Medium/High | Good | Medium/High |
| M. Methacrylate | Medium | 15 | 24 | High | Good | High |
The recommended adhesive for the silicone bow bumper is neutral silicone.
Please, carry out preliminary tests with the adhesive you plan to use and make sure it is suitable. Sand and clean the bonding area if needed.
Observe manufacturer’s recommendations for safety, material handling, and storage. This information can be found in the Safety Data Sheet (SDS)
